On this day in 1941, Kwame Ture, born Stokely Carmichael, was born in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. He later became a prominent civil rights activist. Kwame Ture is famously known for his leadership in the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) and for making the term "Black Power" very popular in the 1960s. Ture was also engaged with the Black Panther Party and later the All-African People's Revolutionary Party. He spent the latter part of his life in Guinea, West Africa, where
