The Pantheon was originally built as a Roman temple but was later converted to a Catholic basilica in 608 A.D. and consecrated as Sancta Maria ad Martyres (Saint Mary and the Martyrs). It is one of the most amazing buildings in Rome, its interior is richly decorated in polychrome marble and adorned with religious arts, has a Sanctuary and a sumptuous high Altar adorned with stunning gold and sky blue mosaic design. The Altar was designed by Alessandro Specchi circa 1700-1721. #altarofthepantheon
